John 10:16 « Thread Started on Dec 15, 2008, 11:37pm »
And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, [and] one shepherd. John 10:16
John records the teaching of Jesus as a Shepherd in the 10th chapter of his gospel. What is Jesus saying when he speaks of "other" sheep?
Jesus said that He is the shepherd and that His sheep know Him and He knows them. Previously in this teaching, He said that He is the door. He goes on to say that as the Father knows Him, so He knows the Father, and that is connected to His willingness to lay down His life for the sheep.
It seems essential for us to remember that Jesus died that we might be redeemed from a sinful condition to reception of salvation. Hmmmm, back to the "other" sheep -
The Greek word for other is allos which means simply another. The Lexicon goes on to tell us that it means "all the rest" or "the remainder." Further, we learn that it refers to numerical and not qualitative differences.
When Jesus says that are not of this "fold" it is speaking to the setting of an uncovered courtyard where sheep were brought at night. Now that is an intriguing concept as we can begin to make some connections. Jesus is saying that there are other sheep that are in an uncovered place and that He has a responsibility to bring them into a place of safety and knowing Him as Shepherd.
That doesn't throw the other sheep away nor does it make them not be sheep. It simply says they are in a different place of protection, covering, and knowledge.
Above all else, stay humble, repent when necessary, apologize and be at peace. Give God the glory. Walk in praise. Let your life be your greatest sound of worship. Appreciate family. Say please and thank you. Prayer is really the most important thing. Pray.

Interfaith ministry is a challenging concept for most Christians as the typical believer confuses interfaith with compromise. No, no, no.... We are not asking a person (nor for ourselves) to not believe what you believe nor are we asking you to incorporate something that is outside of yourself.
What I do think is necessary in this day and time is for Christianity to come out from under the protective shelter of the church world and take a good look around themselves. Guess what? It ain't all about us!
Oh ouch! I know I am stepping on some toes and already some folk will put me in the pit saying that I am a heretic. No, no, no....go back to my previous statement. I know what I believe and do not waver in what I have found to be truth.
Yet......... have we for too long disregarded and discarded every other person and belief system? How many souls are won through condemnation and rejection? Does anyone want to enter any relationship where the focus is on how much disagreement is in place? Come on, now, be real!
Above all else, stay humble, repent when necessary, apologize and be at peace. Give God the glory. Walk in praise. Let your life be your greatest sound of worship. Appreciate family. Say please and thank you. Prayer is really the most important thing. Pray.

I am with you KEW. There are so many people that are lost and does not desire to come to know Christ as their personal Lord and Savior because of christians and the ability to be so judgemental. Jesus said in the Word that it was with love and kindness had he drawn us. We have to open ourselves up to people, meet them were they are. When I think about the scripture and talking about the "other" sheep. Everywhere we turn, there are more sheep that have not been brought to the fold that need the Shepherd. It is truly time to grab hold of the Great Commission and be not just hearers but also doers of the word.
